A person who laced candy with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two boys both nine and 10.

The accused was taken into custody after eight children and an older person fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was remanded in custody before a further hearing on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The defendant played a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She said the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "In the summer" his stepchild had worries about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man went on to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.

"The police had not responded by that time," she added.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.

The prosecutor stated the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She said Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five children.
